TTFB Check

How to use it
- Open TTFB Check under Tools and enter any public http or https address.
- Press Time it. The answer arrives in seconds.
- Read the verdict, then the per-hop bars: first byte against download, hop by hop.
How the verdict works
Under 600ms first byte is Fast. Under 1500ms is Sluggish. Above that is Slow. Redirects are priced separately because every hop is a full round trip before content even starts.
What it measures
- Time to first byte per hop: headers received, download excluded.
- Download time per hop: everything after the headers.
- Redirect cost: the milliseconds burned before content.
First byte is server time, not page time. A fast page on a slow server is a hostage situation. Cache at the edge.
Limits
Ten free checks a day per visitor. Tarsier customers get their pages timed every day, automatically, with the change called out the morning it happens.
