Form analytics
Also called form tracking.
Form analytics is measurement of form starts, field interaction and submits. It shows how a form behaves in use rather than whether the page loaded.
How it is measured
Events fire on focus, change, blur and submit. Aggregations give start rate, time to complete, field completion and error counts. The data should never include what the person typed.
With Tarsier you build this yourself from custom events: start, submit, and a short list of fields. That keeps the measurement small and the personal data at zero.
Worked example
A university application page offers a 16-field form. The measurements show a median completion time of 7 minutes and 42 percent of leavers stopping at the transcript upload step.
The registrar moves transcript upload to a follow-up email. Median time falls to 4 minutes.
How it differs
Form analytics is the umbrella. Field completion rate and form abandonment are two measures inside it. An event is the raw record each one is built from.
Common errors
Capturing typed values. Tracking every field. Forgetting error messages. Ignoring multi-step forms. Skipping accessibility checks on the changes.
In practice
Track start, submit and the two worst fields. Add more only when a specific question needs it.
